The Gallagher Girls
I don’t quite remember when but I do remember coming across a book on Wattpad about teenage spies and it was a Nigerian book, I was so enthralled and so excited about the book but the writer just stopped writing the book in the middle, and after waiting for weeks, she said she wasn’t going to be continuing the book. I was angry and irritated, so I sat up and ended up writing my own teenage spy story on Wattpad.
And my love for anything spy-ish if there’s a word like that made me fall in love with THE GALLAGHER GIRLS series by ALLY CARTER. The book tells the stories of different girls attending a girls-only high school, a secret organization where they train spies.
These girls can do virtually everything, they speak at least ten languages, Greek, Spanish, Chinese, and French amongst others, could change themselves with a wig and lipstick, learned karate, taekwondo, and every form of martial arts out there, in summary, they are more than awe-zing.
But reading from Book One all the way to Book Four and a few standalone, I soon realized something, these girls worked hard, crazy hard and showed up every single day at their classes, I mean they were tasked with protecting the nation, even after they were really good, they didn’t just abandon their classes and kinds of stuff. They got better with every challenge that got thrown their way, with every occasion. And I soon realized that Cammie Morgan in Book 1 wasn’t an opponent for Cammie Morgan in Book 6. In fact the Cammie Morgan in Book 6 without bat an eyelid before beating the Cammie Morgan in Book 1.
And not of course, I’m not trying to give you a summary of what The Gallagher Series is about or how good Cammie Morgan is at speaking fifteen different languages; what I’m trying to say is, we get better by showing up every day to hone our craft, we get better by persistence, we get better by keeping at it, we get better by taking chances, taking risks; whether we are good already or not.
I attended this event not quite long and one of the speakers said “Show up every day like it's Day One’. The excitement of starting something new never dies, you are excited to take the first step, excited to learn new things, excited to get your first win, and your first success, she said to treat every day like that, and carry that same excitement into every day.
And of course, there’s no guarantee that you’ll wake up each day excited, in fact, you won’t and personally I’ll think you are a weirdo if you wake up excited every single day. That just goes as much in saying that no matter what, come rain, come wind, and like Cammie would say, come boys, always show up every day.
This part is super unnecessary but you should try reading THE GALLAGHER GIRLS SERIES, it’s an awesome book series.
